– What People Are Saying –

Sun-scorched and bleached. Juniper is a town where the people have turned inwards. What’s cooking during the long hot summer of deprivation is particularly unsavoury. Ross Jeffery has birthed the lovechild of Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy.

Priya Sharma author of All The Fabulous Beasts and Ormeshadow

The Southern Gothic collides with Grand-Guignol in this timely, highly original, R-rated novella exploring the survival instincts in both humans and animals. Brilliantly atmospheric and undercut with pitch black humour, be warned: Juniper is not for the faint of heart – there are scenes in it that will stay with you…

Sarah Lotz author of The White Road, Three & Day Four

Deliciously dark and delightfully peculiar, this wildly original story of small-town America is both disturbing and beguiling. Jeffery injects a rich stream of humour into the vein of his prose, and doesn’t flinch in producing images that stay embedded in the mind’s eye. The result is a story that jumps off the page and grabs you by the throat, sometimes veering towards absurdity before swerving back into sheer terror. Richly inventive, compulsive, and with a strong and distinct voice, it is grotesque, often repulsive, and I loved it.

Lucie McKnight Hardy author of Water Shall Refuse Them

‘Ross Jeffery’s Juniper is not for the faint of heart. Visceral and raw but always poetic, Jeffery successfully channels Chuck Palahniuk and Stephen King at their shocking best. You’ll want to look away at times, but trust me when I say, you won’t dare turn your back on Juniper.’

Daniel James – Author of The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas

‘Juniper is an atmospheric portrait of a ravaged town—a town full of grotesque brutality, but also full of character and colour and the energetic struggle for life in the midst of destruction.’

Naomi Booth – Author of Sealed

‘Juniper is one vivid town on the edge of active desperation; this novella is an intense, effective read.’

Aliya Whiteley author of The Loosening Skin and Skein Island

‘Reads like a young Stephen King’

Joseph Sale author of Beyond the Black Gate

Juniper reads like the demented offspring of Burke’s ‘Kin’ and Ahlborn’s ‘Brother.’ Hypnotic with his writing, Jeffery grabs the reader from page one. The element of the unknown festers throughout this book and makes for a truly unnerving read, one that will make you continue to turn the pages – un-put-downable! One of the best books I’ve read this year.

Steve Stred author of The RitualThe Stranger and Piece of Me

‘Truly weird and wild, Juniper is a story that triggers all gag reflexes, leaving you in a state of dizzying dread as the heat cooks your brain.’

Christa Wojciechowski author of The Sick Series
